A Calebite town in the fifth hill country district of Judah south of Hebron
JudeaJokdeam appears once in Scripture, in Joshua's catalog of the fifth district of Judah's hill country inheritance: "Maon, Carmel, and Ziph, and Juttah, And Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah, Cain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages" (Joshua 15:55-57). The cluster lies in the rugged Calebite heartland south and east of Hebron, with Maon (David's hideout from Saul) and Ziph (where the Ziphites betrayed David) as its better-known neighbors. The exact site is unknown — some scholars identify it with Khirbet Raqaa about ten miles south of Hebron in the southern Judean highlands.
