A small town in the hill country of Judah near Maon and Carmel
Judean Hill CountryKain (also spelled Cain) was a town in the hill country of Judah, listed among the towns of Calebs inheritance between Maon and Gibeah (Joshua 15:57). It lay in the same southern hill country where Caleb had received Hebron after the conquest and where David had later hidden from Saul among the Calebite shepherds of Maon and Carmel. The site is identified with Khirbet Yaqin southeast of Hebron near modern Yatta — preserving the original name in slightly altered form.
