A small town in the tribal allotment of Benjamin between Jerusalem and Kiriath-jearim
BenjaminMozah appears once in Scripture in Joshua's catalog of Benjamin's second tribal allotment: "And Beeroth, and Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah, And Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah, And Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath, and Kirjath; fourteen cities with their villages" (Joshua 18:25-28). The town lay on the western edge of the Benjaminite hill country between Jerusalem and Kiriath-jearim, controlling the routes up from the Aijalon Valley into the central highlands. The site is commonly identified with Tell el-Beida (modern Motza) about three and a half miles west of Jerusalem on the road descending toward the coastal plain.
