A western Benjaminite town in the post-exile resettlement near Lod and Hadid
BenjaminNeballat appears once in Scripture in Nehemiah's catalog of the post-exile resettlement: "And of the children of Benjamin from Geba dwelt at Michmash, and Aija, and Beth-el... Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen" (Nehemiah 11:31-35). The town lay in the western Benjamin foothills on the route from Lod and Ono up to the central highlands — Persian-period villages the returning exiles reclaimed after Cyrus's decree. Neballat is identified with the modern village of Beit Nabala about four miles northeast of Lod, where Persian-era ceramics confirm continuous occupation through the exile and return.
