Village near Bethlehem that produced two of David's thirty mighty men
JudeaHistorically Verified
Best identified with Khirbet Bedd Faluh just south of Bethlehem. A small village site with Iron Age remains consistent with the biblical period.
A small village near Bethlehem in the Judean hill country, mostly known for the warriors and Levites it produced. Two of David's "thirty mighty men" — Maharai and Heleb (Heled) — came from Netophah (2 Samuel 23:28-29; 1 Chronicles 11:30; 27:13, 15). Members of returning exiles came from Netophah after the Babylonian captivity (Ezra 2:22; Nehemiah 7:26), and the Levitical singers who celebrated Jerusalem's rebuilt walls lived "in the villages of the Netophathites" (Nehemiah 12:28).
