The Gileadite home of Barzillai whose lavish provisions kept David alive during Absaloms revolt
GileadRogelim was a town in the highlands of Gilead east of the Jordan, home of Barzillai the Gileadite — the elderly nobleman whose hospitality during David's flight from Absalom became one of the most touching loyalty stories in 2 Samuel (17:27-29, 19:31-39). When the royal household reached Mahanaim exhausted, Barzillai and two other Transjordan benefactors brought beds, wheat, barley, honey, curds, sheep, and cheese for the entire army. After the victory, the eighty-year-old Barzillai escorted David to the Jordan but declined the king's invitation to court. Solomon later honored Barzillai's sons at his own table (1 Kings 2:7).
