A boundary town on the eastern frontier of Ephraims tribal allotment east of Shechem
EphraimTaanath-shiloh appears once in Scripture as a boundary marker on the eastern frontier of Ephraim's tribal allotment: "And the border went about eastward unto Taanath-shiloh, and passed by it on the east to Janohah; And it went down from Janohah to Ataroth, and to Naarath" (Joshua 16:6-7). The town lay in the eastern Ephraim foothills above the Jordan Valley between Shechem and Janohah, identified with the modern village of Tana east of Shechem (Nablus). The double name preserves a historical link with the earlier Shiloh sanctuary of the tabernacle days, suggesting it may have served as a satellite cult site of the central worship center.
