An Ephraimite city Abijah of Judah captured alongside Bethel and Ephron in his defeat of Jeroboam
EphraimJeshanah ("old") was an Ephraimite city that fell to King Abijah of Judah after his victory over Jeroboam at the battle of Mount Zemaraim: "And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof. Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah" (2 Chronicles 13:19-20). The three captured cities — Bethel, Jeshanah, and Ephron — formed a strategic Ephraimite cluster on the border with Judah. The site is identified with Burj el-Lisaneh about 5 km southwest of Shiloh.
