Jeshanah

Jeshanah ("old") was an Ephraimite city that fell to King Abijah of Judah after his victory over Jeroboam at the battle of Mount Zemaraim: "And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof. Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah" (2 Chronicles 13:19-20). The three captured cities — Bethel, Jeshanah, and Ephron — formed a strategic Ephraimite cluster on the border with Judah. The site is identified with Burj el-Lisaneh about 5 km southwest of Shiloh.
