A Benjaminite town and a hill country mountain in Ephraim where King Abijah of Judah delivered his great speech denouncing Jeroboam
BenjaminZemaraim appears in two biblical contexts. First as a Benjaminite town in Joshua's catalog: "Beth-arabah, and Zemaraim, and Bethel, And Avim, and Parah, and Ophrah" (Joshua 18:22-23). Second as the hill in mount Ephraim where King Abijah of Judah delivered his ringing covenant speech denouncing Jeroboam's northern rebellion just before defeating his eight-hundred-thousand-man army: "And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel; Ought ye not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?" (2 Chronicles 13:4-5).
