Psalms 135 — Praising the God who actually does stuff

📢 Chapter 135 — The Ultimate Stan Anthem 🎤

This psalm is pure energy. No story, no lament, no crisis — just straight praise from start to finish. The psalmist is calling out to everyone who serves in the to lift up the name of the Lord, and then spending the rest of the song explaining exactly why He deserves it.

It's a greatest-hits reel of what God has done — from creating weather to dismantling empires — stacked against the of the nations who can't even blink. This is a praise anthem with receipts.

Roll Call for Praise 🙌

The psalm opens with a call so clear there's no missing it — everyone in the house of God, stand up and praise:

"Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord. Give praise, all you servants of the Lord — everyone standing in the house of the Lord, in the courts of our God. Praise the Lord, because He is good. Sing to His name because it hits different.

The Lord chose Jacob for Himself. Israel is His own possession."

Out of all the nations on earth, God chose Israel. Not because they were the biggest or the best — but because He wanted to. That's right there. He picked them, and He's not letting go. ✨

God Does Whatever He Wants ⚡

The psalmist gets personal here — this isn't secondhand info, this is conviction:

"I know that the Lord is great. Our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the Lord pleases, He does — in Heaven, on earth, in the seas, and in all the depths.

He makes the clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain. He brings the wind out of His storehouses."

Other nations credited their gods for storms and seasons. The psalmist says nah — the Lord controls all of it. Every cloud, every bolt of lightning, every gust of wind comes from His storehouses. He's not one god among many. He's the only one who actually does anything. No cap. 🌩️

The Egypt Recap 🔥

Now comes the — the psalmist pulls up the historical receipts:

"He struck down the firstborn of Egypt — both people and animals. He sent signs and wonders right into the middle of Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.

He struck down many nations and took out mighty kings — Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan. He gave their land as an Inheritance — a heritage to His people Israel."

This isn't ancient history for decoration. This is the psalmist saying: look at the track record. God didn't just make promises — He followed through. Empires fell, kings got wrecked, and Israel walked into a land they didn't build. That's what happens when God is on your side. 💯

His Name Lasts Forever 👑

After the history lesson, the psalm zooms out to an eternal perspective:

"Your name, O Lord, endures forever. Your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.

The Lord will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants."

Kings rise and fall. Empires get their moment and then they're done. But the name of the Lord? It's not going anywhere. And He's not just powerful — He's compassionate. He fights for His people AND He feels for them. That combination is unmatched. 🫶

The Idol Roast 🗿

Now the psalm shifts hard. After laying out everything God does, the psalmist looks at the so-called gods of other nations and just goes off:

"The Idols of the nations are silver and gold — the work of human hands. They have mouths but don't speak. They have eyes but don't see. They have ears but don't hear. There isn't even breath in their mouths.

Those who make them become like them — so does everyone who trusts in them."

This is devastating. The idols are literally NPCs — they look like they should function, but nothing's actually happening. And here's the real warning: you become what you worship. Put your trust in something dead and hollow, and that's exactly what you'll become. Put your trust in the living God, and that's a different story entirely. 🧠

Everybody Praise Him 🎶

The psalm closes the same way it opened — with a call to praise. But now it's specific, rolling through every group in :

"O house of Israel, bless the Lord! O house of Aaron, bless the Lord! O house of Levi, bless the Lord! You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!

Blessed be the Lord from Zion, He who dwells in Jerusalem! Praise the Lord!"

Israel, the , the Levites, and everyone who fears God — nobody is left out of this. The praise isn't reserved for the elite or the professionals. If you know who He is and what He's done, you're in. That's the whole point of this psalm: He's real, He acts, and He deserves all of it. 🙏
