What Happened

God sent Samuel to Jesse's house in Bethlehem to anoint the next king. Jesse paraded seven sons past Samuel and God rejected all of them. Samuel asked 'you got any more kids?' and Jesse was like 'oh yeah, the youngest one is out with the sheep.' David came in and God said 'that's him.' Meanwhile Saul was getting tormented by an evil spirit, so they brought in David to play harp for him. Saul had no idea he was vibing with his replacement.

God's Draft Pick Nobody Saw Coming

God tells Samuel to stop mourning Saul and go find the next king. Samuel rolls up to Jesse's house, passes over seven sons who look the part, and God picks the kid out back watching sheep. Then Saul — losing it mentally — hires that same kid to play music for him. The irony is unreal.
