The Sea Peoples' Peleset group planted themselves on Canaan's coast and became Israel's most annoying neighbors for centuries
After Ramesses III deflected the Sea Peoples from Egypt, the Peleset (Philistines) settled in five cities along the Canaanite coast: Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, and Gath. Archaeological evidence shows they brought Aegean pottery styles, pig consumption (a flex against local customs), and distinctive architecture. These are the people who would later produce Goliath and beef with Israel for generations. DNA analysis confirms their European/Aegean origins.
