A common biblical image — sometimes literal weapons, more often a metaphor for God's Word
Hebrews 4:12 calls God's Word "sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit." Ephesians 6:17 names "the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God" as the only offensive weapon in the Christian's armor. Jesus said he came to bring not peace but a sword (Matthew 10:34) — meaning the gospel divides loyalties.
