A Canaanite coastal city on the Mediterranean, allotted to Manasseh but not driven out
SharonDor was a Phoenician-style port city on the Mediterranean coast south of Mount Carmel. Its king joined the northern coalition Joshua defeated at the waters of Merom (Joshua 11:2, 12:23). Though allotted to the tribe of Manasseh, the Israelites did not drive out the Canaanite inhabitants (Joshua 17:11, Judges 1:27). Solomon later organized it as one of his twelve administrative districts under his son-in-law Ben-Abinadab (1 Kings 4:11). The site is identified with Tel Dor on the modern coast of Israel.
