A boundary marker on the frontier of Naphtalis tribal inheritance in upper Galilee
GalileeEn-hazor ("spring of Hazor") was a boundary point of Naphtali's tribal inheritance named in Joshua 19:37 in the catalog of the nineteen fortified cities of the tribe: "And Kedesh, and Edrei, and En-hazor." The "spring of Hazor" name suggests a settlement built around an abundant water source associated with the great Canaanite city of Hazor — possibly the en-Hazor itself or a sister settlement upstream. The site is identified with Khirbet Hasireh in upper Galilee, where Iron Age ruins preserve the memory of a small fortified Naphtali settlement on the northern frontier of Israel.
