Hammoth-dor

Hammoth-dor ("hot springs of Dor") was a Levitical city of Naphtali allotted to the Gershonite Levites: "And out of the tribe of Naphtali; Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammoth-dor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities" (Joshua 21:32). The same site appears as the shorter "Hammath" in Joshua 19:35 and as "Hammon" in the parallel Levitical-cities list of 1 Chronicles 6:76. The site is identified with Hammat Tiberias on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, where the hot springs that gave the town its name still flow today.
