A Moabite town named in Isaiahs and Jeremiahs oracles against Moab — a "cry of destruction" by the descent of Horonaim
MoabHoronaim was a town in southern Moab, set on a steep descent. The prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah both single it out in their oracles against Moab — "they cry out about Horonaim, 'Destruction and great devastation!'" (Isaiah 15:5, Jeremiah 48:3, 48:5, 48:34). Mesha king of Moab also mentions Horonaim on the Moabite Stone, claiming Chemosh sent him down to recapture it during his ninth-century BCE wars with Israel. Its precise location is debated — likely along the descent from the Moabite plateau toward the Dead Sea, identified by some with modern al-Iraq south of Kerak.
