A Zebulun Levitical city given to the Merarite Levites
GalileeKartah ("city") was a town in the inheritance of Zebulun assigned as one of the forty-eight Levitical cities, allotted specifically to the Merarite branch of the Levites (Joshua 21:34). Together with Dimnah, Nahalal, and Jokneam it gave the Merarites their share of the Galilean lowlands. The site is unknown but lay somewhere in the southern Zebulun corridor connecting the Plain of Acco to the Jezreel Valley — a fertile crossroads of trade routes between the coast and the inland valleys. The parallel list in 1 Chronicles 6:77 omits Kartah, replacing it with Tabor and Rimmono — suggesting either textual variation or the renaming of a small town across the centuries.
