A southern Negev town in the Judah inheritance later identified with Hazor — possibly the birthplace of Judas Iscariot
NegevKerioth-hezron appears in Joshua 15:25 among the Negev cities of Judah's tribal inheritance: "Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor." The text identifies Kerioth-hezron as the same site as Hazor (distinct from the famous northern Hazor of Joshua 11). Several scholars have linked Kerioth-hezron with the place-name behind "Iscariot" (ish-Kerioth = "man of Kerioth") and proposed it as the birthplace of Judas — though the identification is debated. The site lies in the southern Judean Negev about twelve miles south of Hebron, identified with the modern Khirbet el-Qaryatein.
