An Issachar Levitical city given to the Gershonite Levites
Jezreel ValleyKishion ("hardness") was a town in the inheritance of Issachar in the Jezreel Valley region, assigned as one of the forty-eight Levitical cities allotted to the Gershonite branch of the Levites (Joshua 19:20, 21:28). Together with Daberath, Jarmuth, and En-gannim it formed the Issachar share of the Gershonites' Levitical territory. The parallel list in 1 Chronicles 6:72 spells the name as Kedesh — reflecting either a scribal variant or a renaming. The site is uncertain but lay somewhere in the southern Jezreel Valley near the foot of Mount Tabor, possibly at Tel Qasis or Khirbet Qassyun. The name "Kishion" may be related to the Kishon River that drains the valley.
