Asia MinorModern Iznik, Turkey. Constantine convened roughly 300 bishops here in 325 AD to settle the Arian controversy over whether Jesus was fully God. The resulting Nicene Creed is the most widely affirmed creed in Christian history. A second council at Nicaea (787 AD) addressed the use of icons in worship.
