A region along the southern coast of the Black Sea in northeastern Asia Minor. Jews from Pontus were present at Pentecost (Acts 2:9), and Peter addressed his first letter to scattered believers here (1 Peter 1:1). Aquila, Paul's tentmaking partner, was originally from Pontus.
