Shimron

Shimron was one of the northern Canaanite city-state kingdoms Jabin of Hazor summoned into his coalition against Joshua at the Waters of Merom (Joshua 11:1, 12:20). After Joshua shattered the coalition with a forced night march, Shimron was eventually allotted as one of the twelve cities of Zebulun (Joshua 19:15). The site is identified with Tel Shimron just north of Nazareth, on a prominent hill commanding the western Jezreel Valley between the Plain of Acco and the inland highlands. Recent excavations have uncovered one of the largest Middle Bronze Age earthwork ramparts in the southern Levant.
