An Aramean city David plundered for the bronze that Solomon used in the temple
AramTibhath (called Betah in the parallel at 2 Samuel 8:8) was a major city of Hadadezer of Zobah that fell to David during his northern campaigns. 1 Chronicles 18:8 records the strategic prize: "from Tibhath, and from Chun, also cities of Hadadezer, David brought very much brass, with which Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass." The great Bronze Sea that stood in front of Solomon's temple — supported by twelve oxen, holding 11,000 gallons of water — was forged from metal originally cast in Aramean foundries, along with the pillars Jachin and Boaz. The site lies in the central Beqaa valley of modern Lebanon.
