A Simeonite town in the western Negev allotment listed in the Chroniclers catalog
NegevTochen appears once in Scripture in the Chronicler's catalog of the Simeonite settlements within Judah's southern territory: "And at Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susim, and at Beth-birei, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities unto the reign of David. And their villages were, Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities" (1 Chronicles 4:31-32). The text spells out the Simeonite-Judahite settlement pattern that lasted from the conquest era through the early monarchy. Tochen lay in the western Negev cluster between Etam and Ashan, in the borderland where Simeon's tribal allotment overlapped with Judah's southernmost cities.
