A fortified Naphtali town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee listed with Ziddim and Hammath
GalileeZer appears once in Scripture in Joshua's catalog of Naphtali's fortified cities on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee: "And the fenced cities are Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth, And Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor" (Joshua 19:35-36). The town belonged to the cluster of fortified watch-posts on the western lakeshore north of where Tiberias would later be founded. The exact site of Zer remains unidentified, somewhere in the harp-shaped basin around the lower Sea of Galilee. Some scholars suggest it may be a scribal duplication of Ziddim that crept into the consonantal text.
