You're managing medications. Driving to appointments. Staying up late making sure they're okay. Putting your own life on hold because someone you love needs you. And nobody asks how YOU'RE doing. 🫂
53 million Americans are unpaid caregivers. And the burnout isn't just emotional — it's physical, spiritual, and relentless. The Bible has something to say to the person who's pouring out and running dry.
You Can't Do This Alone
was leading an entire nation by himself. Settling every dispute. Making every decision. And his father-in-law pulled him aside and said: "What you are doing is not good. You and these people will only wear yourselves out" (Exodus 18).
didn't say Moses was weak. He said the structure was unsustainable. He told Moses to delegate — to find trustworthy people to share the load. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is ADMIT you need help. 💯
Rest Is a Command, Not a Luxury
In 6, the had been going nonstop — teaching, healing, traveling. looked at them and said: "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."
He didn't say "push through." He didn't say "the work is too important to stop." He literally pulled them away from ministry to rest. If Jesus scheduled rest for his team, it's not optional for you either. Rest isn't selfish — it's obedient. 🔥
There's a Difference Between Burdens
said two things in Galatians 6 that seem contradictory but aren't. "Carry each other's burdens" (verse 2) and "each one should carry their own load" (verse 5). The Greek uses two different words. A "burden" is a crushing weight too heavy for one person. A "load" is your daily pack.
The point: you should help people carry what's TOO MUCH. But you're not meant to carry their entire life AND yours. There's a boundary there and it's holy. Taking on everything isn't love — it's martyrdom, and Jesus already did that. 🧠
Come to Me, Exhausted Ones
11:28 might be the most comforting verse for caregivers: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." wasn't talking to lazy people. He was talking to people who were CRUSHED by the weight they were carrying.
The invitation is to bring the exhaustion TO him. Not pretend it doesn't exist. Not grit through another week. Actually come and set it down for a minute. That's not quitting — that's refueling. 🫶
Renewed Strength
40 ends with a promise: "Those who in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Notice the order: soar, run, walk. The further you go, the harder it gets. And the promise covers ALL of it. Not just the exciting moments of soaring — but the daily, mundane, exhausting walk. God's strength shows up most when yours runs out.
If you're running on empty: you're seen. You matter. And the God who never sleeps is watching over you while you finally rest. No cap. ✊
